Lawmakers React to President Trump’s Announcement That He Expects to be Arrested Tuesday

On Saturday morning, 45th President Donald J. Trump made a statement in response to news that broke Friday that he would be indicted next week by the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, five senior officials told NBC News that law enforcement agencies are conducting “preliminary security assessments” for the Manhattan Criminal Court in case Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) brings charges.

In response to this news, President Trump responded, saying that he will be “arrested” on Tuesday:

“Our nation is now third world and dying. The American dream is dead! The radical left anarchists have stolen our presidential election, and with it, the heart of our country. American patriots are being arrested and held in captivity like animals, while criminals and leftist thugs are allowed to roam the streets, killing and burning with no retribution. Millions are flooding through our open borders, many from prisons and mental institutions. Crime and inflation are destroying our very way of life. Now illegal leaks from a corrupt and highly political Manhattan district attorney’s office, which has allowed new records to be set in violence crime and whose leader is funded by George Soros indicate that, with no crime being able to be proven, and based on an old and fully debunked (by numerous other prosecutors!) fairytale, the far and away leading Republican candidate and former president of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week. Protest, take our nation back!”

Republican lawmakers took to social media to come out in support of President Trump and to blast the Manhattan District Attorney’s case against him.

BREAKING: TRUMP ANNOUNCES HE EXPECTS TO BE ARRESTED TUESDAY

“If the Manhattan DA indicts President Trump, he will ultimately win even bigger than he is already going to win,” wrote Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Twitter (R-GA). “And those Republicans that stand by and cheer for his persecution or do nothing to stop it will be exposed to the people and will be remembered, scorned, and punished by the base. President Trump did nothing wrong and has always fought for the American people, and we all know it, which is why we love him. And any Republican who thinks the Democrats will stop this madness once Trump is out of the way is fooling themselves. Weaponized Government and Political Persecution are new chapters in their playbook and they will use those methods against anyone who stands in their way. And we are absolutely fed up with the two-tiered justice system or rather INJUSTICE system in America. The base has had enough of Republicans that won’t stand up for the people and against the Democrats war against Trump, his admin, his supporters, and traditional values.”

“Virtually every campaign finance violation involves either 1) spending other people’s money illegally or 2) taking money into your campaign that you shouldn’t,” explained Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). “Trump did neither. He used his own money to resolve a private dispute, irrespective of any campaign. The impending indictment is based on an untested, tortured legal theory. This is an absurd abuse of the criminal process in our politics. It must be seen for the partisan pathetic ploy it is.”

“A Trump indictment would be a national disaster,” wrote Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. “It is un-American for the ruling party to use police power to arrest its political rivals. If a Republican prosecutor in 2004 had used a campaign finance technicality to arrest then-candidate John Kerry while Bush & Cheney were in power, liberals would have cried foul – and rightly so. Principles go beyond partisanship. Let the American people decide who governs. This will mark a dark moment in American history and will undermine public trust in our electoral system itself. I call on the Manhattan District Attorney to reconsider this action and to put aside partisan politics in service of preserving our Constitutional republic.”

“If they can come for Trump, they will come for you,” wrote Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ). “This type of stuff only occurs in third world authoritarian nations.”

“Arresting President Trump over a 2016 event which is of dubious illegality is another sign of the left’s insanity,” wrote former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. “To arrest a former and future President is an act of hatred and poison and will further harden support for Trump while discrediting the left. Remember Hunter Biden!”

The potential arrest of President Donald Trump would be an inflection point for the American republic. It would be unprecedented and the fallout will likely be immense.
