Trump-backed Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) made a strong stance against the illegal border invasion in Texas. Just a few days after Abbott victoriously overcame radical Democrat Robert O’Rourke, the governor invoked the “invasion’s clauses” of the Texas and United States Constitutions to secure the border between Texas and Mexico.
“I invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. & Texas Constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion,” the governor wrote in a Tweet.
Abbott doubled down on his efforts to protect Texans and the rest of the country by sending military tanks to the border. This action sends a strong message to those crossing the border illegally, as well as the Biden administration, who continue to fail to protect American citizens.
Abbott isn’t pinching pennies with this new policy. Each armored tank is reportedly worth $300,000. Usually, these M113 tanks are used in war, and currently, some are being used to fight the Russians in Ukraine, according to The New York Post.
According to the letter sent to county judges in Texas, the state is using over 4 billion taxpayer dollars to secure the border and stop this invasion. In the same note, he praised the previous administration saying, “Just two years ago, we had the fewest illegal crossings in decades. This past year under President Biden, an all-time record was set for the number of immigrants crossing the border illegally.” Making it clear why so much money is necessary for the security of the state.
The decision to send tanks to the border isn’t the only thing the governor has done in recent weeks to stop the illegal invasion at the border. He’s also working to sign a law to create more substantial penalties for those involved with the unlawful transportation of fentanyl.
This action by Gov. Greg Abbott has the potential to save many lives as it will help to stop the illegal flow of fentanyl across the border, which is responsible for the deaths of so many Americans. This last fiscal year alone, U.S Border and Customs Protection seized 15,000 pounds of fentanyl, according to Fox News.
While this is an incredible step forward for Texas and the rest of the country, this isn’t the first strong stance the governor has taken in the past few years. Before the overturning of Roe V Wade, the governor signed into law the Heartbeat bill, which made abortion illegal once a heartbeat is detected.
He followed the Heartbeat Bill up with another bill referred to as a ‘trigger law’ that would ban all abortion if Roe V Wade was ever to be overturned. A year later, after the High Court’s historic decision, that law banned all abortion in the state of Texas.
It’s clear that Gov. Abbott is intentionally creating laws protecting the innocent. By banning abortion, the lives of many unborn children are being saved, and by securing the border, the governor is ensuring that fewer illegal drugs come across the border and into American cities.
