ABC News producer Dax Tejera passed away on Friday after suffering a sudden heart attack at the age of 37.

“It’s with a heavy heart and great sadness that we share that our friend and colleague, Dax Tejera passed away suddenly of a heart attack last night,” wrote ABC News President Kim Godwin in a memo to staff, per the Hollywood Reporter.

“As [Executive Producer] of ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ Dax’s energy, passion, and love for that show, ABC News, and you, shined every Sunday morning,” she continued. “That same love was extended to his precious girls.”

“On this Christmas Eve, hug your loved ones a little tighter,” the ABC News president concluded, adding, “And please lean on each another.”

Tejera leaves behind his wife, Veronica, and his two young daughters, as reported by The Daily Wire.

The 37-year-old father of two started at ABC News in February 2017 as a senior producer and was promoted to the role of executive producer in February 2020.

ABC staff also gave their condolences during a broadcast by Rachel Scott on Christmas Eve, emphasizing that Tejera’s premature death has left them “shocked and hurt.”

“We have sad news to report. Our friend and colleague here at ABC, Dax Tejera, died suddenly last night,” Scott reported. “Dax was the executive producer of ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos.’ In a statement, ABC News President Kim Godwin said, ‘Dax’s energy, passion, and love for that show shined every Sunday morning.'”

“‘This Week’ co-anchor Jonathan Karl shared that Dax adored his family and he loved his work. His passing has left us shocked and hurt. Our thoughts are with his wife Veronica, their two young daughters, and their entire family,” the correspondent concluded. ‘Dax will be deeply missed here by all of us at ABC News.”
