Alvin Bragg Responds to House Republican Investigation, Was Given Deadline to Comply to Congress Today

On Thursday, the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) issued a letter in response to House Republicans demanding that Bragg come forward to Congress after it was revealed that Bragg would potentially be seeking an indictment of 45th President Donald Trump.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH), Byran Steil (R-WI), and James Comer (R-KY) sent Mr. Bragg a letter summoning him to appear before Congress.

The letter gave Bragg until 10 a.m. Thursday to appear before Congress, however, the office sent the letter to House Republicans instead, as obtained by Punchbowl News.

The Republicans also requested Mr. Bragg produce documentation and information from January 1, 2017, to the present concerning the investigation against Mr. Trump, all documentation and communication by specified individuals that referred to or were related to Donald Trump, and the same material for his office’s receipts and usage of its federal funds.

In response to this, an unprecedented inquiry into a “pending local prosecution. The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day2 and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene. Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.”

The letter also claims that providing documents to the House committees would interfere with state law enforcement, as reported by The Daily Wire.

The letter, written by General Counsel Leslie Dubeck, “will not allow a Congressional investigation to impede the exercise of New York’s sovereign police power,” however she added that Bragg’s office “will always treat a fellow government entity with due respect.”

Bragg’s office also requested to “meet and confer to understand whether the Committee has any legitimate legislative purpose in the requested materials that could be accommodated without impeding those sovereign interests.”

As Bragg continues to pursue a case that rests on shaky legal ground, Congress has every right to investigate whether or not this investigation is an abuse of power by the district attorney.

It is apparent that Bragg has politicized his investigation and is putting politics above justice. He would rather see Trump in handcuffs than actually see the various criminals that terrorize the streets of New York in prison.
