As Thousands Flock to Ashbury Revival, School Looks to Make Major Change

The Ashbury University revival which has garnered headlines over the past two weeks has seen thousands flock to the campus in order to witness the power of God in the small Kentucky college.

The revival, which began on February 8th, has seen 24-hour prayer service and has gone viral on social media leading thousands from across the country to come to Wilmore.

The non-stop worship led students from at least 22 colleges and universities to come to the chapel, according to the Washington Post.

The events garnered so much attention that even Vice President Mike Pence noted the revival: “Deeply moved to see the revival taking place at [Ashbury University]! The Lord is at work at Asbury and Lives will be Changed Forever. To the young and old #AsburyRevival, God Bless You All & Praise the Lord!”

The crowds, however, are becoming too much for the small university that has only 1,700 students. In a statement, University President Dr. Kevin Brown wrote that a schedule will be drawn up for the coming week and that the revival will come to an end.

“We are experiencing a historic moment at Asbury University,” Brown began his statement. “Since our regularly scheduled chapel service on February 8, there have been countless expressions and demonstrations of radical humility, compassion, confession, consecration, and surrender unto God.”

“We are witnessing what Scripture describes as the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23),” he added.

“As we enter the third week of this renewal movement, our desire is to be faithful to our mission as a student-centric Christian University,” the president said. “Further, we believe that the continued flourishing of such a movement invites us to commission our Asbury community, visiting students, and other campus guests from across the world to neighbor-serving, God-honoring work.”

“After much prayer and discussion with campus leadership, we have established a schedule for the upcoming week that is available on the university website,” President Brown concluded.

The school will no longer have live streams of the events and services will continue through Wednesday.

With Christianity declining throughout America in recent decades, this revival is a welcome sight. Hopefully, events like these will reignite faith in the younger generations and bring many closer to God.
