A federal court has blocked the Biden Administrations’ efforts to force religious doctors and hospitals to perform gender transition operations and procedures against the dictates of their own conscience.
The case, which was settled Friday, surrounds the Catholic “Religious Sisters of Mercy” and a few other groups who refused to participate in gender transition operations. While the Nuns constitutive of the Religious Sisters of Mercy love and care for humanity at large, they could not, in good conscience, violate their sincerely held religious and ethical commitments.
As the National Review reports, “The Eighth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s decision to block enforcement of the rule on the grounds that ‘intrusion upon the Catholic Plaintiffs’ exercise of religion is sufficient to show irreparable harm,’ the filing reads,”
“Catholic nuns, clinics, a university, and hospitals were among the plaintiffs in the case, represented by the Becket Fund. The plaintiffs all provide medical care for transgender patients but refuse to provide gender-transition surgeries because they believe them to be harmful. Their grant of permanent injunctive relief from the lower court was preserved Friday.”
As Bloomberg Law adds, “the decision echoes one by the Fifth Circuit in August affirming an order permanently blocking the government from requiring Christian doctors and hospitals to provide gender-confirming care to transgender people.”
The Left’s war on conscience is real. Religious healthcare providers are among the best of us. And yet, time after time and joust after joust, the Left continues to force ethically-minded Americans to violate the precepts of right reason.
But we the people know better. We know an America without her conscience — one informed by both reason and true religion — is not the great city built upon a hill that our forefathers envisioned. If America loses her grip on the true, the good, and the beautiful, she is in for an awfully bleak future.
Fortunately for America, however, more and more Americans are standing up for what is right. We must defend the freedom of conscience and all that is stands for. For conscience is God’s domain and that matters to the broad mass of the American public, many of whom are earnestly trying to preserve our status as a “moral and religious people”, just as John Adams and the rest of our founders envisioned.
