BLM Allies Face Decades In Prison, Millions In Fines – See What They Did

Monica Cannon-Grant and her husband, Clark Grant, the founders of Violence In Boston, and prominent leaders in the Black Lives Matter Movement were charged with 18 federal counts of fraud in 2022. This week the pair were charged with an additional nine counts according to the Department of Justice Thursday.

As reported by The Blaze, the couple founded their own non-profit organization Violence In Boston or VIB in 2017 with the goal of “reducing violence, raising social awareness, and aiding community causes in Boston,” citing NECN, a Boston NBC affiliate.

VIB reportedly partnered with Black Lives Matter extensively in the years that followed, particularly in 2020. VIB and BLM jointly organized a Boston demonstration for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

Boston.com reported that the charges against the Grants revolved around allegations that they illegally used pandemic assistant funds for personal expenditures.

U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins’s office wrote,

“Instead of truthfully reporting that Clark Grant was receiving pandemic unemployment assistance (in addition to his salary), and that other family members were gainfully employed and receiving pandemic unemployment (in the case of one other family member), the defendants allegedly misrepresented their actual household income to obtain rent relief funds that were intended to aid Boston residents who were facing housing insecurity.”

Olivia Rondeau reporting for The Post Millennial wrote that the 2022 charges for wire conspiracy alone could land the couple in prison for up to 20 years with three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.

The new charges according to WCVB, “of making false statements to a mortgage lending business provides for a sentence of up to 30 years in prison, up to five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $1 million. The charge of filing false tax returns provides for a sentence of up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of up to $100,000. The charge of failure to file a tax return provides for a sentence of up to one year of prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of up to $25,000.”

Violence in Boston was essentially non-functional by 2022, with all programs suspended and/or shut down by July 6th. The Grants plead not guilty in March 2022 to the original indictment per NECN the couple’s attorney Robert Goldstein told reporters at the time that prosecutors “rushed to judgment.”
