Authorities in Philadelphia have told the press that a woman holding a concealed carry weapons permit shot an assailant during an alleged attack around 1 a.m. New Year’s Day in the East Frankford area near Tackawanna Street.

Officials told CBS News that the woman shot the 30-year-old man in self-defense as he was assaulting her. Officers recovered the gun used in the shooting.

The man was transported to Temple Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen and has undergone surgery. According to Breitbart, his condition is stable. Fox News reports that he was later arrested.

WTXF-TV reported the shooting as a “domestic incident” and said the man was shot inside a home, noting that the unidentified woman was taken into police custody after the incident. The outlet described the shooting as “Philadelphia’s first shooting of New Year.”

Columnist AWR Hawkins observed for Breitbart that it previously reported concealed carry permit applications in Philadelphia have increased as much as 600 percent, “as law-abiding residents responded to city’s violent crime by arming themselves.”
