Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered a heart attack on the field last week, has given an update to supporters regarding his health after a week-long hospital stay.

Hamlin collapsed in the first quarter of the game against the Cincinnati Bengals last week after making a tackle. He was immediately rushed to the University of Cincinnati Health Center and placed in critical condition.

Following his week-long stay, however, he has made a recovery thanks to the care provided by his doctors and the thousands of fans that prayed for the 24-year-old.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, fans across the country came out in support with the hashtag “#Pray For #3” trending on social media. Entire football teams knelt on the field in support of Hamlin’s recovery.

The prayer and support paid off. The Buffalo Bills safety was discharged from the hospital on Monday and transported to his hometown of Buffalo, New York.

“Headed home to Buffalo today with a lot of love on my heart,” Hamlin wrote on Twitter to announce his discharge from the hospital. “Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling. The same love you all have shown me is the same love that I plan to put back into the world n more. Bigger than football!”

Hamlin has moved closer to his team and will continue to recover in a Buffalo-based hospital. His physicians, Dr. Timothy A. Pritts and Dr. William Knight, shared a video to update the public on the football player’s recovery, as reported by The Daily Wire.

“We shared last time that we were with you that our ultimate goal was to get Damar back home to his amazing family and the broader Buffalo family,” Knight said. “Well, Dr. Pritts and I are thrilled and proud on behalf of UC to report to you that Damar Hamlin has been released and returned to Buffalo. I traveled with him to the airport this morning with our UC Health, air care, and mobile care crew, including teammates who are with us on the field when Damar Hamlin collapsed.”

“He landed safely and as standard as anybody who has gone through what he’s gone through this past week, and certainly after flying on a plane, he is going to be observed and monitored to ensure that there’s no impact from the flight on his condition or on his lungs,” he explained. “Dr. Pritts and I have spoken extensively with his care team in Buffalo, and I can confirm that he is doing well. And this is the beginning of the next stage of his recovery.”

With Hamlin now back in Buffalo, he is sure to make a speedy recovery and get back out on the field. The thousands of fans that supported him throughout this ordeal look forward to his return.
