Congressional Republicans are calling for Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition Sam Brinton of the Office of Nuclear Energy to be terminated from the role after it was revealed that Brinton was arrested for allegedly stealing another passenger’s luggage at a Minneapolis airport.

Brinton caught national attention when the Biden administration announced the hiring of the first allegedly “non-binary, gender fluid” official in an Executive branch office. In response to the allegations Brinton claimed that the luggage was taken by accident after using it for approximately a month according to The Daily Wire.

Sixteen Republican members of Congress penned a letter, to Biden Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm demanding Brinton’s resignation.

The letter explained the situation in depth reading in part,

“We write to respectfully demand the resignation of the Department of Energy’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, Sam Brinton, who was recently put on leave following felony theft charges.

Despite not checking a bag before flying out of Washington, D.C., surveillance footage reveals Brinton taking and leaving with luggage from the baggage carousel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on September 16th. After initially lying to the police, Brinton later admitted to taking a suitcase valued at $2,325 and hiding the owner’s belongings in a hotel room. Alarmingly, Brinton has been observed using the stolen suitcase on multiple trips to Washington, D.C., and was ultimately charged with felony theft, which carries a penalty of up to five years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine, or both.”

The letter was signed by Reps. Andrew Clyde (GA), Troy Nehls (WI), Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Doug LaMalfa (CA), Ralph Norman (SC), Andy Biggs (AZ), Rick Crawford (AR), Yvette Herrell (NM), Barry Moore, Brian Babin, Louie Gohmert (TX), Clay Higgins, Bill Posey, Claudia Tenney, Nancy Mace, and Randy Weber.

Brinton was placed on leave from any duties with the administration following the arrest.

Both Brinton and the Biden administration have heavily leaned on the ‘gender-fluid‘, ‘non-binary‘ nature of the 35-year-old MIT alum.

A photo of Brinton alongside U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine became a lightning rod in July 2022. The appointments of Levine, Brinton and current White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre were heavily publicized by the administration and the mainstream media with emphasis on their sexual orientation and gender identity, leading some to question if more qualified candidates were passed up in favor of ‘representation.’

In a December 1 appearance on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight, comedian Adam Corolla said, “It’s all a diversity hire, and this is a problem. And people get a lot of crap for talking about diversity hires. It’s great to have a diverse group, but that can’t be the only criteria we use for hiring people in super important positions.”
