Congressional Republicans under House Speaker nominee Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California could push back the latest defense spending bill for the Pentagon after taking control of the House in 2023.

McCarthy pointed to the “wokeism” that has pervaded Department of Defense Policy under the Biden-Harris administration as a motivating factor.

“I’ve watched what the Democrats have done on many of these things, especially the NDAA — the wokeism that they want to bring in there,” McCarthy said in early November according to The Washington Examiner.

“I actually believe the NDAA should hold up until the 1st of this year and let’s get it right.”

The Examiner reported that the House Freedom Caucus demanded in an October letter to McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky that the GOP delay passing a finalized version of the National Defense Authorization Act approved by the House in 2022 until Democrats in the Senate meet their requirements.

These demands include removing “the contamination of our military by radical Leftist ‘woke’ ideologies and the prioritization of politics over combat readiness,” and cutting funding for “pet climate projects.”

The caucus is also calling for the appointment of a special inspector general to oversee U.S. funding and material support for Ukraine and provide accountability to the taxpayers.

In a joint press release, Republican Rep. Chip Roy and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas exposed in a detailed report composed by Roy and Sen. Marco Rubio, the Democrats’ efforts to “deliberately weaking our nation’s military by injecting woke, anti-American ideology into it.”

“Our military’s singular purpose is to ‘provide for the common defense’ of our nation,” wrote Rep. Roy and Sen. Rubio in the 18-page Congressional report. “It cannot be turned into a left-wing social experiment. It cannot be used as a cudgel against America itself. And it cannot be paralyzed by fear of offending the sensibilities of Ivy League faculty lounges or progressive pundits.”

They continued, “The world is a dangerous place, and the Biden Administration’s insanity is eroding our greatest source of security in it.”

The report explained under the heading: “Accountability” that discrimination against conservative ideology is rampant in the Military under Biden and the Democrats.

“The Biden Administration has a disturbing track record of punishing those who object to woke ideology and giving license to those who agree with it. Under the Biden Administration, there is a strict standard for those who hold heterodox opinions but no consequences for those who toe the party line. This flagrant discrimination is fundamentally unjust and cannot continue. Moreover, it breeds resentment and allows loyalty to an ideology, rather than competence, to determine success in our military.”

Biden’s Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin wrote in letters to several Democrat leaders this week that passage of the full year of Pentagon funding is “essential,” according to Newsmax. Austin claimed “Failure to do so will result in significant harm to our people and our programs and would cause harm to our national security and our competitiveness. “
