On Friday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) formally launched an investigation into the classified materials found at Joe Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware home and the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.

The classified documents were reportedly discovered on November 2, just four days before the midterm elections. The documents were dated between 2013 and 2016 and pertain to international governments with some marked “sensitive compartmented information.”

To get to the bottom of why these documents were in the president’s possession, the Judiciary Committee will be probing the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The investigation comes on the heals of the appointment of Special Council Robert Hur by Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday as well as an investigation launched by House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. James Comer (R-KY), as reported by Breitbart.

The two Judiciary Committee Republicans announced the probe with a letter addressed to AG Garland:

TRUMP SLAMS BIDEN FOR CLASSIFIED DOCUMENT SCANDAL, SUGGESTS CHINA MAY HAVE HAD ACCESS

“We are conducting oversight of the Justice Department’s actions with respect to former Vice President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.” the letter began. “On January 12, 2023, you appointed Robert Hur as Special Counsel to investigate these matters. The circumstances of this appointment raise fundamental oversight questions that the Committee routinely examines. We expect your complete cooperation with our inquiry.”

“It is unclear when the Department first came to learn about the existence of these documents, and whether it actively concealed this information from the public on the eve of the 2022 elections,” the Republican congressmen wrote. “It is also unclear what interactions, if any, the Department had with President Biden or his representatives about his mishandling of classified material. The Department’s actions here appear to depart from how it acted in similar circumstances.”

“In fact, on August 8, 2022, despite the publicly available evidence of President Trump’s voluntary cooperation, you personally approved the decision to seek a warrant for excessive and unprecedented access to his private residence,” Jordan explained, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. “On August 15, 2022, Committee Republicans wrote to you and FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting documents and information related to the FBI’s raid of President Trump’s residence.”

Jordan then went on to demand that the Justice Department hand over documents related to the appointment of the special counsel, communications sent between the White House and the DOJ in relation to the classified documents, and documents pertaining to the physical stores of the documents as well as communications between Biden’s lawyers and the DOJ.

With Republicans now in the majority, they are able to finally provide oversight of the executive branch. These investigations into the classified document scandal are just the beginning and will prove to be instrumental in getting answers for the American people.
