President Joe Biden’s military and economic largesse to the government of Ukraine has so degraded America’s combat readiness that a new report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies says if war with China broke out, our forces would exhaust their ammunition “in less than one week.”
According to the CSIS report cited by Timcast News, the United States military is “not adequately prepared,” for war and would most likely find themselves without ammunition in a matter of days if we engaged China in a theorized war over Taiwan.
“These problems are particularly concerning since China is heavily investing in munitions and acquiring high-end weapons systems and equipment five to six times faster than the United States, according to some U.S. government estimates,” the report warns.
Contrast this with a recent Truth Social post from former President Donald Trump who wrote ruefully,
“IF I WERE PRESIDENT, THE RUSSIA/UKRAINE WAR WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, BUT EVEN NOW, IF PRESIDENT, I WOULD BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE AN END TO THIS HORRIBLE AND RAPIDLY ESCALATING WAR WITHIN 24 HOURS. SUCH A TRAGIC WASTE OF HUMAN LIFE!!!”
The assessment from the CSIS is supported by recent comments from the U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro reported by Newsweek earlier this month. The Secretary told a group of reporters at the 2023 Surface Navy Association National Symposium in Arlington, Virginia that within six months the U.S. Navy may need to decide whether to arm Ukraine or itself, as reported by Defense One’s Marcus Weisberger.
“An admiral alluded to the US needing to choose between itself and Ukraine during a panel at the conference,” he wrote.
BREAKING: TRUMP ALONE CALLS FOR PEACE — BIDEN ESCALATES TO WHAT HE CALLED ‘WORLD WAR III’ IN UKRAINE
Biden, in an appearance at a Troy, Alabama factory in May, reported by Bloomberg said, “We need more money to make sure the United States can continue to send weapons directly to the frontlines of freedom in Ukraine,” as he urged Congress to approve an additional $3 billion in aid to Ukraine.
The outlet reported that according to Raytheon Technologies, makers of the Javelin along with Lockheed Martin that manufactures the Stinger Anti-Aircraft missile, said during an earnings call that it will take the firm years to fully replenish U.S. stockpiles.
Tyler Stone writing for The Federalist and citing the same CSIS report noted, “The 20 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) that the United States sent to Ukraine could be replaced in about three years depending on the production surge rate.”
He added, “The report found that the United States’ ‘defense industrial base’ is not adequately prepared for the competitive security environment that now exists.”
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) expressed her concerns in a Wednesday tweet. She wrote, “America is depleting our own military arsenal, giving weapons and now tanks to Ukraine, while China is building its military at the fastest pace in world history. It’s time put America First!”
Maiya Clark, Senior Research Associate for the Defense Industrial Base in the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation observed, “The fact that only a few months of fighting in Ukraine consumed such a large percentage of U.S. Stingers and Javelins suggests that the DOD’s plans, and the stockpiles that result from them, are insufficient.” She made a series of recommendations that Congress and the Department of Defense work with the White House to urgently streamline production under The Defense Production Act (DPA).
Clark concluded, “Sufficient stockpiles of munitions are vital to the U.S. defense. Once those stockpiles are expended, the DOD cannot simply buy more munitions; manufacturing munitions takes years. Congress and the DOD must ensure that U.S. stockpiles can meet the challenges of the modern era while working with manufacturers to make the industry as responsive as possible.”
