On Thursday, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) introduced a bill, named the “No Taxpayer Funds for Illegal Alien Abortions Act,” which bans taxpayer money from going to fund abortions for illegal migrants.

The bill would “prohibit any employee or contractor of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the Department of Health and Human Services from transporting any alien across State lines for the purpose of procuring an abortion for such alien.”

The bill also bars any Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Health and Human Services (HHS) federal employee from paying for an abortion except in instances where the mother’s life is in danger or the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.

“The Biden administration is unlawfully using taxpayer money to transport pregnant, illegal alien children across state lines for late-term abortions. My colleagues and I have introduced bicameral legislation to end these illegal and horrific policies once and for all,” Boebert said in a statement. “Taxpayer money should never fund abortions, whether for citizens or non-citizens. Our priority at the southern border should be security and peace, not death and destruction.”

Federal tax dollars going to pay for abortion have been prohibited by the Hyde Amendment since 1976. Despite this amendment, the Biden administration issued guidance in November to HHS to make efforts, according to Boebert’s press release, to “facilitate taxpayer-funded abortions for illegal alien children, including transporting these children across state lines to circumvent state laws that protect the unborn.”

“Shockingly, this unlawful guidance also encourages late-term abortions by encouraging ground transportation to abortion clinics in neighboring states where the pregnant alien minor is past the gestational age for flying,” the statement continued, adding that Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) also introduced the bill, according to The Daily Caller.

Other Senate cosponsors of the bill include Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), Steve Daines (R-MT), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), James Inhofe (R-OK), James Lankford (R-OK), Mike Lee (R-UT), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Rick Scott (R-FL).

House sponsors of the “No Taxpayer Funds for Illegal Alien Abortions Act” include Reps. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Mary Miller (R-IL), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Ken Buck (R-CO), Greg Steube (R-FL), Mike Bost (R-IL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Jody Hice (R-GA), Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Andy Harris (R-MD), Ronny Jackson (R-TX), and Diana Harshbarger (R-TN).

In addition to the many congressmen supporting the legislation, pro-life organizations are also in favor of the bill including the Family Research Council, the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University, Students for Life, and the Susan B. Anthony List.

Boebert is taking bold action to protect the rights of the unborn and guarding legislative precedent by not allowing federal dollars to go to fund abortions. Hopefully, this legislation passes through Congress and the Biden administration’s policy of abortion on demand is somewhat handicapped.
