New York Republican Representative and recent Gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin (R-NY) is exploring the prospect of chairing the Republican National Committee (RNC), a recent report reveals.
As NBC reports, “Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., who lost a surprisingly close race for governor last week, has spoken with GOP elected officials and party activists who want him to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, his media consultant said.”
“‘He has received calls from around the country,’ John Brabender said Sunday. ‘It’s likely that he will at least explore it. … He’s fielding calls, talking to people, listening to them, but it has not gone beyond that.'” NBC adds.
According to POLITICO, current RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel announced Monday she will once again seek a nomination to the chair. In the meantime, Co-chair Tommy Hicks announced he will not seek another nomination to his position.
As NBC reports, “under the party’s rules, the top two posts must be held by one man and one woman.” This gives Zeldin a golden opportunity to win the nomination.
TRUMP-BACKED REPUBLICAN FLIPS KEY CONGRESSIONAL SEAT RED
Zeldin ran a competitive race with incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul. Indeed, it was the most competitive race for any GOP Gubernatorial candidate since 2002, when Republican George Pataki won his Third Consecutive term. Many have speculated Zeldin effectively carried many congressional Republicans over the finish line, something that could have very easily secured a GOP majority in congress. Republicans flipped three House seats in New York during the most recent Midterms after all.
As such, Zeldin received the coveted Trump endorsement back in October — given his America First attitude to politics.
“I have watched and known Congressman Lee Zeldin for many years. He is a great and brilliant lawyer who was a ‘must see’ for others in Congress when they had a complex legal problem that was holding up legislation… Lee Zeldin is a WINNER who GOT THINGS DONE. He will be a GREAT Governor of New York, and has my Complete & Total Endorsement. GOOD LUCK LEE” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
While Zeldin has announced nothing concrete yet, we look forward to seeing the Republican Party make the necessary changes it has to in order to compete in the years ahead.
