Louisiana GOP Secure A Major Win BANNING Transgender Procedures For Children, Override Democrat Governor

The Louisiana legislature took a major vote on Tuesday to overturn the veto that was put forward by Governor John Bel Edwards (D-LA) on a bill that would ban all sex reassignment surgeries and treatments for minors throughout the southern state.

The bill in question, House Bill 648, also called the 'Stop Harming Our Kids Act', was vetoed by the governor on the 29th of last month after passing through both the House and the Senate in Louisiana. The bill specifically targets preventing any healthcare provider from administering hormone blockers, hormone replacement, or sex-changing surgeries.

Edwards had vetoed the bill claiming that it trampled on “parental rights” over a “very small, unique, and vulnerable group of children.” He also claimed that surgeries on minors were not happening within the state and claimed that it was only “propaganda and misinformation generated by national interest groups,” but that raises the question of why he would care if it’s banned if it’s not happening.

The bill was called “veto-proof” by the sponsor of the bill, State Rep. Gabe Firment (R), back in June when it was first making its way through the legislature. Firment noted both the massive Republican majority in the Louisiana House and Senate as well as the bi-partisan support that the bill had been receiving at the time, per Fox News.

"The passage of this important legislation would not have been possible without the help of courageous detransitioners, brave Louisiana physicians and advocates, and parents and grandparents across our great state. It is my sincere hope that Governor Edwards will allow this bill to become law, ensuring that Louisiana children receive compassionate mental health care and a future filled with hope, happiness, and opportunity," Firment said in a statement.

The state legislature isn’t the only one happy about the overriding of the veto, with others within the state celebrating the bill for protecting Louisiana's youth.

"Vulnerable children will be safer now in Louisiana," said Mark Trammell, the executive director for the Center for American Liberty. "Governor Edwards’s failed veto shows that he cares more about appeasing special interest groups than protecting children from medical procedures and drugs that physically mutilate and sterilize."

The overriding of the veto is a major victory for conservatives but also for the parents and children of Louisiana. Whether the governor of the state is aware of it or not, children are receiving life-changing procedures that harm their bodies negatively as a result of the transgender insanity going through the country. It’s essential that we protect the children of this nation from the dangerous and self-harming ideas pushed by the left no matter how hard they push back against it.
