MSNBC Editor Makes Ludicrous Claims About Top Gun: Maverick – It’s ‘The Most Insidious Movie at the Oscars’

On Saturday, MSNBC Opinion Editor Zeeshan Aleem made a number of ludicrous claims about the blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick which has been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

In the piece, titled “‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is the most insidious movie at the Oscars,” Zeeshan argues that the film is military propaganda and “poisonous.”

“But ‘Top Gun’ is as insidious as it is entertaining. It does not merely revive a forgotten human-centered spectacle; it also beckons for a return to accepting the American war machine as a beacon of virtue and excitement,” the opinion editor writes. “It’s a poisonous kind of nostalgia, one that smuggles love of endless war into a celebration of live action.”

The columnist went on to portray the movie as “literal propaganda” because Department of Defense officials got to review the script in exchange for director Joseph Kosinski and star Tom Cruise to utilize military equipment and aircraft for the film.

“I don’t object to anyone’s enjoyment of the film, but I hope it tanks at the Oscars,” the MSNBC editor wrote. “It’s possible to make thrilling action without so brazenly priming the public for warfare.”

The columnist then explains that the movie defends the “military industrial complex” and glorifies “imperialism.”

Aleem rails against the opening scene of the movie in which Maverick flies a jet at Mach 10 in order to showcase the success of the program to preserve the jobs of other colleagues. In the MSNBC editor’s view, the main character’s actions, “embodies the American bipartisan spirit of forever increasing the U.S. colossal defense budget — his first great deed in the movie is to nearly self-immolate in service of the military industrial complex. “

The author concludes his piece by stating that the movie led to an increase in recruitment levels for the armed forces, writing, “As every branch of the military faces recruitment problems, a beloved movie that makes war look thrilling and bloodless could be a solution.”

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the movie that swept America currently has a box office haul of $718,732,821 domestic, $770,000,000 internationally, and an overall box office of nearly $1.5 billion making it the 12th most popular movie ever, according to Box Office Mojo.

The Oscar nomination will be the fourth nomination for Tom Cruise, who both starred in and produced the film. The nomination is his first in two decades. Cruise’s other nominations include Best Supporting Actor in 2000’s Magnolia, Best Actor for 1997’s Jerry Maguire, and Best Actor for 1990s Born on the Fourth of July, as reported by Breitbart.

Top Gun: Maverick‘s competition includes nine other filmsAll Quiet On The Western FrontAvatar: The Way of WaterThe Banshees of InisherinElvisEverything Everywhere All At OnceThe FabelmansTarTriangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.

Audiences will see if members of the Oscars agree with Aleem but it is likely that the blockbuster film will win at least some Oscars due to its immense popularity with the public.
