Radical Democrats Propose ‘Domestic Violent Extremism Commission’— In Reality It’s a MAGA Targeting ‘Ministry of Truth’

The Washington State legislature has a House bill moving out of committee this week that leftists call ‘a model for the nation.’ House Bill 1333 would create a 13-member Domestic Violent Extremism Commission to investigate a “whole of society response” to incidents of “domestic violent extremism.”

The bill makes no effort to define “domestic violent extremism,” and instead relies on a study from State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, which includes noncriminal, constitutionally protected activities according to The Post Millennial.

The study described,

“Various forms of extremist and political violence like threats, coercion, and intimidation, online disinformation, extremist recruitment and government infiltration efforts, and the general spread of extreme white supremacism and anti-government ideologies.”

The report even admits the “effective State intervention to address these threats has the potential to implicate speech or association that may be protected by the First Amendment, or the individual right to bear arms protected by the Second Amendment.”

It also argues, “rather than exclusively address ‘domestic terrorism’ per se, these recommendations seek to best support Washington State to respond to this panoply of challenges, which together combine to create the threat of—and indeed, are often precursors to—acts of domestic terrorism.”

During the bill’s presentation, a slide from the Anti-Defamation League was presented that describes what the committee would investigate. Troublingly, each item is not as the ADL describes them “Conspiratorial narratives motivating extremists,” but are rather central policy positions for a majority of conservative Americans.

The slide pointed out, “election fraud narratives,” “anti-mask and anti-vaccine narratives,” “anti-critical race theory narratives,”  as well as “anti-LGBTQ ‘Grooming’ narratives'” claiming that these crucial, politically contentious debates result in “Increased threats against election officials, medical professionals, and school board members” and “Protests and disruptions at school board meetings, pride events and drag queen story hours.”

Absurdly, and predictably, there is absolutely zero mention of the BLM riots of summer 2020, the numerous black nationalist splinter groups that glommed onto the BLM banner, Antifa and Antifa-adjacent groups, eco-terrorism or as Post Millennial noted “the deadly Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, for which the city just settled a multi-million dollar lawsuit from business owners affected by the domestic extremists.”

The composition of the proposed committee also provides a clear view of its inherent anti-conservative bias. The commission would have four legislative members:

  • one appointed by each of the two largest caucuses of the Senate;
  • one appointed by each of the two largest caucuses of the House of Representatives.

The two largest caucuses at present are of course the Democrat and Republican caucuses, which would seem fairly even on its surface. But dig deeper.

The fifth member is to be appointed by the governor, Democrat Jay Inslee, one from the Attorney General’s Office who penned the study that spawned the committee, and another from the radical leftist think-tank the Anti-Defamation League.

Six more representatives would come from “organizations representing groups protected under the state’s hate crime statute,” and naturally would also be appointed by the state attorney.

So what we have is, on its face, a state committee with a mandate to investigate America First Republicans, run by Democrats and their appointees with the power to “criminalize certain forms of expression based on what members of a state commission consider to be their definition of ‘domestic extremism.’ Creating a state-level ‘Ministry of Truth’ would not only undermine democratic norms, but it would have a chilling effect on public debate, freedom of speech, and civic participation in Washington state,” according to Live Finne, Director of Education for the Washington Policy Center.

She wrote that the bill would enable the legislators and state officials to “decide whose words and whose speech would be subject to criminal prosecution,” adding the “Attorney General’s office would increase surveillance of citizens for perceived violations of words and speech prohibitions.”

Ferguson gleefully tweeted, “On the 2nd anniversary of the attempted coup against our country, I’m proud that my office published a report on domestic violent extremism that is being called “a model for the nation” that argues for a public health approach to addressing the increasing radicalization.”

Finne warned, “Citizens would be encouraged to report friends and neighbors to the state for officially-banned phrases, thoughts, and expressions.”

It’s a “model for the nation,” PBS Newshour’s Ibarron Lopez said. It’s really a ‘how-to-guide’ to suppress conservative dissent under the color of law.
