No More Blank Checks For Ukraine: McCarthy Working On HUGE Move to Hold Biden Accountable for Sending Billions of Tax Dollars to Ukraine

Representative Ralph Norman (R-SC) in an interview with Breitbart News informed the public that conservative lawmakers were getting weary of the attempts to include aid to Ukraine in must-pass spending bills. The infamous over 4,000 paged$1.7 trillion omnibus spending package that was passed in December over the objections of many GOP House members was one such example of sneaking aid to Ukraine into a voluminous multisubject spending bill. Ukraine has been in a state of direct war with Russia since February of last year when Russia launched its “special military operation” there.

The South Carolina Republican, who sits on the Rules Committee, pledged that House conservatives on his committee would strip aid to Ukraine from such mandatory spending bills. He explained the reasoning thusly, “If it’s spending American dollars, then each representative is going to have to take a vote on it. We’re simply not going to let them bundle it up on something completely off the radar with having anything to do with where the money’s going.” Mr. Norman credited Kevin McCarthy, the Republican Speaker of the House, for his cooperation with the conservative House members.

McCarthy is on record for previously promising that a Republican-dominated House would not be writing black checks for Ukraine. McCarthy defended his stance by saying that “I think Ukraine is very important. I support making sure that we move forward to defeat Russia in that program. But there should be no blank check on anything. We are $31 trillion in debt.”

Other Republicans on the Rules Committee such as Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Chip Roy (R-TX) have been named by Breitbart as those in favor of Representative Norman’s stance. Mr. Norman expounded: “On Ukraine, we need to know where it’s going. Accountability should have been before money was even allocated. But it wasn’t. And we got to make sure that it’s accurate. Secondly, we’ve got to get other countries involved. I mean, America at least weighed in his money we don’t have this is just adding to the national debt, which is the product which is the Achilles Heel for this country.”

‘JOE BIDEN, YOU NEED TO CALL DONALD TRUMP’: GOP CONGRESSMAN SAYS TRUMP CAN BRING PEACE TO UKRAINE

In the Senate, figures like Josh Hawley (R-MO) have warned that the United States is overcommitting in Ukraine and that the war between Russia and Ukraine is distracting the national gaze from China, America’s closest peer competitor. In a speech he delivered at The Heritage Foundation, Mr. Hawley opined that “The core problem is that our actions in Ukraine are directly affecting our ability to project force elsewhere. Specifically, to deter China in the Pacific.”

Other Republicans like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) have taken a different view than the aforementioned Republicans. McConnell has taken potshots against his fellow Ukraine-skeptical party members. McConnell complained that he thought that “there’s been way too much attention given to a very few people who seem not to be invested in Ukraine’s success.” McConnell is on record for calling for more military, economic, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The Senate minority leader championed the inclusion of aid to Ukraine in last December’s omnibus bill saying, “Providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the number one priority for the United States right now according to most Republicans.”

Other leading Republicans like Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) are trying to move the skeptics into a more pro-aid position. McCaul plans to hold a hearing on Russian atrocities in Ukraine explaining that “I find that moves the dial, when they see these horrific killings of children.”

Meanwhile, as noted by the DC Enquirer, other big figures within the party like 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump have called for peace in Ukraine and have slammed Biden’s escalating shipments to Ukraine.
