On Wednesday House Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) introduced 10 pieces of legislation to be considered in the 118th Congress including a bill that would bar any flag other than the American flag to be flown over a U.S. embassy.
The bill would prohibit any flag other than the Stars and Stripes from being flown over an embassy or consulate in foreign countries.
The legislation, according to a press release from Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), was “in response to a State Department official putting a rainbow flag up over a South American embassy in 2018. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has since authorized all U.S. embassies and consulates overseas to fly the BLM flag on their official flagpole.”
“Our beautiful flag, Old Glory, should be the only flag flying and representing our country over our diplomatic and consular posts worldwide,” said the congressman. “The American flag is a beacon of liberty, and no other flag or symbol better portrays our shared values than the Stars and Stripes. It is important to ensure that Old Glory only is flown at American embassies to represent our ideals abroad.”

In addition to the 2018 example, the embassy in The Vatican also raised the rainbow flag in celebration of “Pride Month” in June 2022, as reported by The Daily Wire.
“Today is the start of Pride Month,” the embassy wrote on Twitter. “The United States respects and promotes the equality and human dignity of all people including the LGBTQIA+ community.”
Other instances of flags being raised in front of official American buildings overseas include a Black Lives Matter banner adorned outside the American embassy in Athens, Greece in 2021.
“We raise this banner in honor of George Floyd, murdered one year ago today,” the embassy tweeted, adding that they are “in solidarity with people around the globe seeking a world without racial discrimination and a future with equal opportunity for all.”
Diplomats and consulate workers in the State Department show their true allegiances when they take part in such acts and they once again drive home that the bureaucracy is a left-wing institution. With House Republicans in charge, they can hopefully begin to chip away at the institutional power of the progressive bureaucracy with bills such as Congressman Duncan’s.
