Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) vowed on Tuesday in remarks at Bonita Springs, Florida to block investments in the Florida real estate market from the Chinese Communist Party.
The popular Florida governor emphasized that the Chinese government has been buying land across the United States for purposes yet to be known.
According to the American Enterprise Institute, China has bought up more than 1.2 million acres of land across the United States. Of that total, 700,000 acres of it is farmland with the remaining 500,000 being commercial and industrial properties, as reported by The Daily Wire.
“When they have interests that are opposed to ours and you see how they’ve wielded their authority, especially with President Xi, who’s taken a much more Marxist turn since he’s been ruling China,” the governor said, adding that it “is not in the best interests of Florida to have the Chinese Communist Party owning farmland, owning land close to military bases.”

DeSantis emphasized that he is willing to protect his state through any means necessary including attempting to block both the purchase of farmland and residential properties.
“My view is, okay, yeah, no farmland, but why would you want them buying residential developments or things like that?” the governor stated. “I don’t want them owning subdivisions or things like that.”
“The issue’s going to be if someone comes in and buys, it’s not the CCP that’s signing that,” he explained emphasizing that crafting legislation to halt such purchases would be difficult. “These are holding companies. You’ve got to structure [legislation] in a way that will effectively police it. But yes, we do not need to have CCP influence in Florida’s economy.”
Gov. DeSantis is sending a clear message to the Chinese government: stay out of Florida. America’s adversary should be wary of messing with a leader who could very well be a contender for the presidency in 2024. The Florida governor is once again showing his boldness in tackling issues that no other official is willing to take on.
