On Wednesday, Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) introduced a bill titled the “Repeal The NFA Act” which would end the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA) passed under President Roosevelt.

The NFA was the first bill that put restrictions on Americans’ gun ownership. The bill requires citizens wanting to purchase a firearm to pay a $200 tax, register their firearm, and apply to get certain accessories or firearms, as reported by The Daily Caller.

“It’s time to step up for law-abiding citizens and stop the infringement of our Second Amendment rights!” the congressman wrote on Twitter.

“The federal government has used the National Firearms Act for almost a century to violate law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment rights,” Burlison said about the introduction of his bill. “The recent ATF pistol brace rule is just another example of these blatant attacks on the constitutional rights of Americans. The ATF-NFA sham needs to end.”

“The repeal of the NFA Act will strip the ATF of its authority to criminalize lawful gun owners and will undo nearly 90 years of assault on fundamental freedoms,” the Missouri congressman continued. “I’m proud to stand with and support Americans nationwide as we take this issue head-on.”

In addition to Burlison, Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Mary Miller (R-IL), and Andy Ogles (R-TN) are also cosponsoring the legislation.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced similar legislation last week that would abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms (ATF).

The bill, titled the “Abolish the ATF Act”, would immediately eliminate the agency from the Washington bureaucracy.

The moves by both the congressman come after the ATF passed a new edict to firearm owners that ban pistol stabilizing braces on firearms for individuals who don’t have a certain license.

As the bureaucrats in Washington continue to infringe on the protected liberties of Americans everywhere, it is up to a few brave Republicans in Congress to stand in their way. Thanks to congressmen like Eric Burlison and Matt Gaetz, the American people can be a little less worried about the swamp in Washington.
