Christmas Eve reports from Fort Worth have revealed that a male sex offender dressed as a woman was caught allegedly taking pictures of women beneath a bathroom stall at a local mall. While fleeing from a woman and man who confronted him, he brandished a pepper-ball gun and was later arrested.

Police reported that Douglas Brent Egan, a 45-year-old registered sex offender, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper photo/video in a bathroom.

“A female victim was inside a public bathroom inside the mall when she observed what appeared to be a cellphone facing her from underneath a stall wall,” officers said according to Law And Crime.

“She stepped out of the stall and confronted the suspect who was described as a male that was dressed to look like a female. The suspect left the bathroom and was attempting to leave the mall as the female victim continued pursuing the suspect.”

The woman pursued the man and a man who witnessed the confrontation attempted to intervene and prevent the sex offender’s escape, police explained. At this point, Egan pulled what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it threateningly at the man.

“The suspect then left the mall, but was being observed by several witnesses,” officers told Law and Crime. “These witnesses saw the suspect changing his clothes and also observed what appeared to be a handgun in the back waistband of the suspect’s pants.”

The suspect was arrested at a nearby apartment complex according to The Daily Wire after he was detained by witnesses. Police determined that the apparent ‘handgun’ was a non-lethal pepper ball gun.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has Egan classified as a “high-risk” sex offender who is considered to be a danger to his community and is likely to re-offend, committing additional sex crimes in the future. He was registered for life after a 2015 conviction of indecent exposure against a 16-year-old girl along with two other cases of indecent exposure in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Across the three cases, Egan served a little under eight years in prison.

Egan is being held at the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth on a $30,000 bond pending a court appearance on Jan. 3.
