Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has ordered ten M113 APCs or Armored Personnel Carrier units to deploy to the border with Mexico in response to the Biden administration’s efforts to end the expulsion of illegal immigrants under Title 42.

According to Military-today, the M113 series of armored, amphibious personnel carriers that debuted in 1957 is “the most widely produced and utilized APC of the Western World.” The vehicle offers a fully enclosed hull with aluminum alloy armor requiring 2 crew to operate and able to carry up to 11 personnel with their gear.

The vehicle is typically armed with a single turreted 12.7 mm machine gun with 2,000 rounds of ammunition, however, is unknown if the units deployed by the Texas Guard will be so armed.

In a statement reported by Breitbart, the Texas Military Department wrote, “The personnel carriers are being trucked to security points along the border today. These will enhance protection for our forces in the face of increasing cartel-directed criminal activity.”

“The lifting of Title 42 could lead to a massive influx of illegal immigrants allowing criminals to further exploit gaps where federal authorities are inundated with migrant processing,” they added.

Texas Military officials said that the vehicles deployed from Fort Hood will be needed at the border to protect soldiers deployed under Operation Lone Star by Gov. Abbott to combat increasing cartel violence in the area. They described an increasing number of violent border incursions being carried out by the cartel para-military forces.

“Between Oct. 1 2021 and Nov. 8 2022, Texas National Guard Service Members have experienced 267 suspicious or violent events,” officials told Breitbart. “These events include receipt of gunfire across the border, physical assaults, drone activity, lazing, surveillance, suspicious activity, threats of violence to the task force and threats of violence to individuals.”

In a letter to Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw and TMD Adjutant General Thomas Suelzer, Abbott wrote, “Until Congress acts or the Biden Administration does its constitutionally required job, Texas Guardsmen and Troopers must bear the burden of securing the border.”

“You must continue to keep Texans and Americans safe and protect against an invasion of the southern border. I order you to use all resources and tools available to repel immigrants from attempting to cross illegally, arrest those who cross illegally and return them to the border, and arrest criminals who violate Texas law.”
