Donald Trump announced a new plan during his Presidential campaign announcement on Tuesday in Mar-a-Lago. Should he win, Trump plans to enforce the death penalty on those who push deadly drugs like fentanyl into our communities. Trump is tough on crime, and there is nothing tougher than the death penalty.

“‘Every drug dealer during his or her life, on average, will kill 500 people with the drugs they sell, not to mention the destruction of families. But we’re going to be asking everyone who sells drugs, gets caught selling drugs, to receive the death penalty for their heinous acts.” Trump said.

“Because it is the only way. We do not need any more blue ribbon committees. I do not like to say this, and I do not even know if the American public is ready for it, and a lot of my people say ‘please do not say that sir, that’s not nice.’ They kill 500 people each, on average. And if you don’t do this, in China, when I was with President Xi, I said ‘President, do you have a drug problem?’ ‘No, no, no we don’t,’ [Xi replied] he looked at me like I didn’t know what I was doing.”

Trump signaled his support for this plan at campaign rallies and speeches throughout the year this year. For instance, in July, Trump said the following during a DC Address to supporters.

“The penalties should be very, very severe. If you look at countries throughout the world, the ones that don’t have a drug problem are ones that institute a very quick trial death penalty sentence for drug dealers…” Trump remarked.

It sounds horrible, doesn’t it? But you know what? That’s the ones that don’t have any problem. It doesn’t take 15 years in court. It goes quickly, and you absolutely — you execute a drug dealer, and you’ll save 500 lives… It’s terrible to say, but you take a look at every country in this world that doesn’t have a problem with drugs, they have a very strong death penalty for people that sell drugs.” Trump added.
