On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy formally rejected Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee.

The move was formalized after House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) submitted the two Californians for the committee despite McCarthy’s staunch rejection of the idea.

McCarthy decided to remove Schiff for his blatant politicization of the Intel Committee during the Trump administration and the speaker kicked Swalwell over security concerns after the congressman was allegedly found to be in close connection with a Chinese operative, as reported by Breitbart.

“I have rejected the appointments of Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell for the House Intelligence Committee,” McCarthy wrote on Twitter. “I am committed to returning the [House Intel] Committee to one of genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people.”

“I appreciate the loyalty you have to your Democrat colleagues, and I acknowledge your efforts to have two Members of Congress reinstated to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence,” McCarthy wrote to Rep. Jefferies. “But I cannot put partisan loyalty ahead of national security, and I cannot simply recognize years of service as the sole criteria for membership on this essential committee. Integrity matters more.”

“It is my assessment that the misuse of this panel during the 116th and 117th Congresses severely undermined its primary national security and oversight missions-ultimately leaving out nation less safe.” the California Republican continued. “Therefore, as we enter a new Congress, I am committed to returning the Intelligence Committee to one of genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people.”

Following the announcement, the speaker was questioned by reporters leading to a heated exchange between McCarthy and a reporter that repeatedly pressed for an answer from the speaker following his clear response.

“Let me be very clear and respectful to you. You asked me a question,” McCarthy said to the reporter. “When I answer it, it’s the answer to your question. You don’t get to determine whether I answer your question or not, okay, in all respect.”

“I’m going to be very clear with you. The Intel Committee is different. You know why? Because what happens in the Intel Committee, you don’t know. What happens in the Intel Committee, all of the secrets going on in the world, other members of Congress don’t know.”

“I believe there’s 200 other Democrats that can serve on the committee,” the newly-elected Speaker of the House said. “Those voters elected Schiff even though he lied. Those voters elected Swalwell even though he lied to the American public too. … I’ll respect his voters too and they’ll serve on committees, but they will not serve on a place that has national security because integrity matters to me.”

As McCarthy takes action against Swalwell and Schiff to protect the honor of the Intel Committee and the security of the American people, Democrats are continuing to play games and attempt to paint McCarthy negatively despite the Democrats kicking minority party congressmen off of committees in the last Congress. Americans see through their games.
