WATCH: Secretary Mayorkas Humiliated by Senate Republicans, Can’t Answer Basic Questions

Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is no stranger to hostile hearings. The Biden political appointee has been criticized as being ineffective and derelict at his job by politicians and border agents alike. The presence of the man in question at Tuesday’s Senate hearing showcases the feeble excuses that Mr. Mayorkas hides behind.

When Senator John N. Kennedy (R-LA) asked the Secretary whether he agreed with the president about banning assault weapon ownership in the United States, the secretary uncharacteristically responded in the affirmative without further meandering.

Senator Kennedy followed up by asking Mr. Mayorkas to define what an assault weapon was and pressed him to explain it beyond a specific weapon (like an AK-47). The Secretary now characteristically gave a long winded answer that did not really clarify anything. In the end, Mayorkas after being pressed on his non-answer in the end said, “I am confident there is a technical definition of what is an assault weapon.”

The topic then shifted to the more familiar grounds of America’s open border problem. Mr. Mayorkas went on a confusing and contradictory tirade about the need to maximize resources to fight this problem and praise for how secure the border has been under Biden’s watch. The Louisiana senator then pointedly asked “are we succeeding [in securing the border]?”  Mayorkas responded that the administration is focused on this and then tried to excuse the lack of success by saying that the entire hemisphere is experiencing the same problems we are.

Mr. Kennedy then rattled off damning data points concerning the record number of illegal border crossings, encounters, and the like.  Mayorkas defended the administration’s lackluster record by spouting that expulsions of illegal aliens last year was the highest ever. However, when there are record numbers of illegal aliens that are entering the country and staying in the country due to an open border his cited statistic has less meaning. Secretary Mayorkas, however, delusionally said all of the administration’s policies were “delivering precisely the result you [Senator Kennedy] that you seek.”

Mr. Kennedy called Mayorkas out on his delusion by saying the secretary “was the only person in the Milky Way who believes we are not having massive illegal immigration into America.” The Secretary objected by spouting that there was no question there was “a very serious challenge at the southern border.”  Senator Kennedy asked why didn’t Mayorkas declare a safe third country policy where genuine asylum seekers would be granted access to live in the closest safe third country to their homeland.

Senator Kennedy broke it down the following way “if you are coming from Venezuela and you come through Mexico if you didn’t claim asylum in Mexico you can’t come here [to the US], you have to leave.” Secretary Mayorkas said this would require the consent of that third country to which Mr. Kennedy said that was not the case. After Mayorkas tried to make an excuse, the Republican lawmaker said Mayorkas had two years to make such a policy and asked why didn’t he do so.

Mayorkas tried to counter this by saying what the Senator proposed was not sound policy. He then blurted out that he did not have unilateral authority to do this and repeated this was not sound policy.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) attacked the DHS Secretary on similar grounds. He took to social media to blast the fact that “[r]ather than building the wall, the Biden Administration has built an app that allows migrants to reserve a time – from their phones – to cross the border! Concierge service for illegal immigrants.”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) also highlighted the scale of the problem since Mayorkas took office. There was a video of him posted by the National Review saying at the hearing that “Mr. Secretary, you just testified to the American people that you are incompetent at your job!”

The Texan Republican then took to social media to add “Secretary Mayorkas’s refusal to do his job is revolting.”

While the sheer scale of ineptitude and dereliction of the border being evident to all, the issue is will Republicans impeach the Secretary for such violations of his oath. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said back in February that the Republicans did not have the votes to do so by a large margin.
