West Virginia Lawmakers Go on the Offense: Files Bill to Take Major Action Against “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” In Universities

Two brave lawmakers out of West Virginia are trying to pass legislation that would put a hold on the indoctrination coming out of public universities within the state. While the nation realizes the leftist cesspool that is the university system, lawmakers are scrambling to find real solutions to this never-ending issue.

On Valentine’s Day, State Delegate Chris Pritt (R-WV) and State Delegate Todd Longanacre (R-WV) introduced HB 3503, which has been assigned to the committee on education. The bill seeks to ban “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” from the admissions process and remove all “DEI” requirements for enrollment.

The bill, if signed into law, would force public Universities within the state to take out all admission requirements related to diversity. Examples of such conditions include “essays” or “oral statements” regarding diversity issues. The bill considers these policies discriminatory in nature and unfair to prospective students.

“No diversity statement shall ever be required or solicited as part of an admissions process, employment application process, hiring process, contract renewal process, or promotion process; or as a condition of participation in any administrative or decision-making function of any public institution of higher education,” the bill reads.

The authors of the bill also make it clear that in no way shall universities be allowed to give any sort of preferential treatment to students based on factors of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” unless prescribed by law. “No public institution of higher education shall give preferential consideration to an applicant, student, staff member, or faculty member due to any opinion expressed or action taken in support of another individual or a group of individuals on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.”

This new bill would in no way prohibit applicants or students from expressing their views on issues of diversity voluntarily; instead, it would protect their right to do so while preventing individuals from being forced to adopt these kinds of statements.

State Delegate Chris Pritt (R-WV) explained on Twitter, “This is my bill. Let’s work to eliminate DEI reeducation and identity politics indoctrination in our college bureaucracies. This is common sense legislation that will help turn the tide on radical leftists who have to a great extent, taken over many of our universities.”

According to the bill, no public funds shall be allocated to diversity, equity, and inclusion if passed. Instead, the fund shall be reallocated to “merit scholarships” and “tuition reduction” for students that reside in the state.
