Trevor Noah, the host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show”, announced Thursday he will be leaving the program — a program he has hosted since 2015, taking over from notorious liberal Jon Stewart.
“I just found myself filled with gratitude for the journey. It has been absolutely amazing. It’s something I had never expected… And I realized after seven years that my time is up.” Noah told his audience.
“Yeah, but in the most beautiful way. Honestly, I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly s****y on the worst days, you know, we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, but after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”
Noah added. “It is a weird thing to say, I have never been good at goodbyes, and it is not instant, I am not disappearing, don’t worry… And I’m really grateful, you know, to a network who believed in this random comedian nobody knew on this side of the world.”
This news comes as Noah’s show faced a significant rating slump, unprecedented among late-night comedy hosts. As Fox News reports, “viewership of “The Daily Show” dropped significantly over the years, making Noah one of the least-watched late night hosts. Back in 2013, the show with Stewart behind the desk reached 2.5 million viewers. In the most recent months, Noah failed to average 400,000 viewers. ”
This news could be read as another instance of woke comedy underperforming. Fellow woke Comedy Central host Samantha Bee faced cancelation earlier this year — with Warner Bros. Discovery citing “business-based decisions.” Trevor Noah is famous for many things — few of them good. His comedy is heavily partisan, and if you don’t buy his rabid anti-Trumpism, you will be left feeling empty after hearing his routine.
He has been a notorious critic of President Trump — treating Trump’s initial campaign run with a characteristic sarcasm unbecoming of a serious-minded political commentator. He has defended the racist and Marxist Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement since at least 2016.
Noah’s departure leaves room for more robust political commentators to rise up and convince the American people with facts and logic — and humor when it is needed! Hopefully, America First patriots will fill the gap.
