Incoming students to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Medical School generated controversy this past week when they recited an oath filled with leftist talking points that ultimately reject modern science.

Their updated Hippocratic Oath began by focusing on the irrelevant fact that the University is planted on indigenous land:

“With gratitude, we, the students of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Medical School Class of 2026, stand here today among our friends, families, peer, mentors, and communities who have supported us in reaching this milestone. Our institution is located on Dakota land. Today, many Indigenous people from throughout the state, including Dakota and Ojibwe, call the Twin Cities home; we also recognize this acknowledgment is not enough.”

The woke oath then continued, using leftist equity language to spotlight “structural violence”:

“We commit to uprooting the legacy and perpetuation of structural violence deeply embedded within the healthcare system. We recognize inequities built by past and present traumas rooted in white supremacy, colonialism, the gender binary, ableism, and all forms of oppression…”

The oath then proceeds to even weirder. Doctors ought to cherish the findings of modern science. But apparently, that’s not the case at the University of Minnesota Medical School! According to them, we should take very seriously ancient “indigenous ways of healing”, whatever that means.

“We pledge to honor all Indigenous ways of healing that have been historically marginalized by Western medicine. Knowing that health is intimately connected to our environment, we commit to healing our planet and communities.”

Yikes! Their wokeness is clear as day and evident for all to see. What does any of this have to do with being a doctor? Doctors are supposed to be up on the latest and greatest in medical advancements. While it would be unwise to discount the wisdom of our forefathers completely, did that really need to be recited in an oath? All in all, this oath shows us this medical school is more impressed by the radical left than they are with healing their patients. We the people deserve better.
