DON HOOPER: Dana Myers Isn't Fit To Lead The Texas GOP

Dana Myers is bad for Texas. After serving as vice chair of the Harris County Republican Party under establishment Chairs Paul Simpson, a Never Trumper, and Cindy Siegel, Myers was elected vice chair of the Republican Party of Texas based on the lie that Myers would bring Texas Federation of Republican Women to the party. At the time, grassroots conservatives were upset about the involvement of Myers in attempts to undermine the grassroots, like Operation Wrangler (an effort led by Cat Parks to undermine conservative precinct chairs). Now, she's running for to lead the Texas GOP.

A review of Myers' campaign donations shows a concerning pattern with donations to Texans for Lawsuit Reform (TLR) and Associated Republicans of Texas (ART). These organizations work against grassroots conservatives and advocate liberal, open-border policies—the opposite of what the current state party majority led by Matt Rinaldi has been fighting for.

What we should have known then that we know now is that dark forces within our party worked to place Myers in a position to undermine Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi. These are the same people who have perpetuated the false Nazi narrative against Rinaldi and the party by teaming up with the Texas Tribune and its pagan writer Robert Downen.

Back to Harris County. Myers first appeared in politics as a vice chair under Harris County Republican Party (HCRP) Chair Paul Simpson, a man who refused to mention Donald Trump's name for the first three years of Trump's presidency. Simpson was put into office by Dick Weekley, of Texans for Lawsuit Reform fame, who was anxious to wrestle HCRP away from conservative control. Now, Cindy Siegel is also propped up by Weekley. Now you know why conservatives made great strides throughout the state but saw Paxton impeachers win in Harris County. Even now, Myers has not endorsed Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan's primary opponent, David Covey!

Over the last two years, Myers received reimbursement of over $34,000 from the Republican Party of Texas for her travels. But what do we have to show for these expenditures? Supposedly, Meyers spoke to the Texas Federation of Republican Women groups about election integrity. Sure. Importantly, State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) members do not receive reimbursement for their expenses. Myers has admitted that she failed to raise one dime for the party during her tenure. After she ran on a platform supporting the chair, she announced her campaign to run against Chairman Matt Rinaldi at a Texas Federation of Republican Women meeting.

The Republican State Convention is fast approaching – May 23-25 in San Antonio. The committee work is well underway. Keeping the Republican Party of Texas under conservative leadership is crucial. The fight is on, and the establishment class is working to get their boys elected and continue their work to eradicate grassroots conservatives. Under the leadership of Chairman Rinaldi, the Republican Party of Texas has been on the front lines fighting against the impeachment of Ken Paxton through the censure of Dade Phelan. The selection of Chairman Rinaldi's replacement, the most successful chair in decades, will impact the nation.
