Donald Trump has seen a massive surge on his X (formerly Twitter) account following his first post on the platform in over two years, gaining over 500,000 followers in the two days since posting. With the massive boost in followers, the former president cements himself as the ninth most followed account on the entire platform.
Trump has been slowly losing followers on the social media platform since his ban back in 2021. His account was reinstated by Elon Musk, who promised that he would unban the New York businessman if he purchased the platform during discussions in May of 2022, per the DC Enquirer.
The Republican presidential candidate made his first post on Thursday night, as previously covered by the DC Enquirer, and it has gone on to garner well over 210 million views. The post linked to his website and had his mugshot picture alongside the caption “MUG SHOT – AUGUST 24, 2023. ELECTION INTERFERENCE. NEVER SURRENDER. DONALDJTRUMP.COM.”
With such a far-reaching tweet, massive growth was inevitable. On the day he posted the photo, Trump got over 160,000 new followers to his X account. On the following day, he gained over 380,000 more followers based on data from SocialBlade. It’s unlikely that the massive growth will stop there. It’s reasonable that he could see hundreds of thousands more followers flock to the once lively account, potentially millions more. Donald Trump has also seen massive attention on all sorts of different social media platforms following the release of his mugshot, with many people sharing edited memes while others rallied in support of the leading Republican presidential candidate. It seems that the move by Democrats to drag Trump by the neck and parade him around has completely backfired in their faces. Trump has managed to take something that could easily be used as a killing blow against him and his campaign and transformed it into a rallying point through his charisma alone. The Democrat Party can do anything and everything to attempt to smear and deface Trump, but ultimately the attacks done by them will only work to strengthen his resolve and the support of his voter base. Perhaps if things were done differently and Biden simply ran a proper campaign he might have stood a chance but as things are, 2024 is essentially a wrap.
