Iraq War Veteran Opens Fire On Suspected Car Burglar During Late Night Robbery

On Tuesday morning, a suspected car burglar showed up at the Baptist Neighborhood Hospital after a Texas homeowner in San Antonio confronted and opened fire on the man while he was attempting to steal his vehicle around 3:30 AM CST.

The shooting, which occurred on the 9800 block of Caribou Creek, saw the homeowner fire off at least ten rounds in the direction of the burglar, which prompted the suspect to flee the scene after being struck. The man eventually showed up at a local hospital, where he collapsed due to his injuries. According to KSAT, the man claimed that he had walked to the hospital from the scene of the shooting, but officers later found his vehicle in the parking lot, stained with blood. The alleged thief, who had gunshot wounds in both of his legs, was then transported to another hospital by ambulance in stable condition.

According to KENS5, the homeowner, an Army veteran named Armand, was alerted to the robbery by his Ring doorbell. The homeowner saw two suspects attempting to break into his vehicle, prompting him to take action. "Rolled over, grabbed my phone, looked at the camera, and saw a guy in a red hoodie in the back passenger side door of my truck," the veteran told the outlet, adding that he grabbed his firearm from the nightstand and headed outside, worried that the suspects would get access to the weapon in his vehicle.

"When he came around, my first thought is he has my gun, and sure enough, he had my gun, and he had my bulletproof vest," Armand explained. The Iraq veteran stated that he opened fire on the man, leading to him collapsing in the driveway before his accomplice helped him into the getaway car. Police later recovered Armand's firearm and bulletproof vest near the hospital and returned the items to him.

"I'm a Purple Heart vet out of the Army, so when I went to Iraq, something like this was on the dinner table, but I never expected to do nothing like this in my front yard and have to defend my home," the gunowner said.
