'2,000 Years Ago They Hated Him Too' – Action Star Chris Pratt Discusses His Love For Christ Despite Backlash

Last week, Chris Pratt discussed the effects that his faith has on him as a person as well as the criticisms he has faced in Hollywood for being an outspoken lover of Christ.

During the tour promoting his new film, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3,’ the action star was interviewed by Page Six and discussed his faith. When asked about the criticisms he faces for being Christian, Pratt stated “that’s nothing new, that nothing new, you know?”

Pratt reiterated his point by quoting Bible verses, saying “If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20.” The star added “That’s the way it is, nothing new. 2,000 years ago they hated him too.”

Pratt has worn his faith on his sleeve during his time in Hollywood, much to the chagrin of the Hollywood elite. During a speech at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the blockbuster star claimed that he was instructed to “say something inspiring” when accepting his Generation Award, to which he then boldly announced “God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you.”

Following the speech, Pratt was criticized for his words of love for God. Chris had to later issue an apology, where he clarified that there were definitely bad religious organizations out there, but that there is a distinction between those religions and what he follows. Pratt has also faced backlash from transgender actor Elliot Page when she slammed the movie star for being involved with the Hillsong Church, which is an outspoken anti-LGBTQ organization, per Variety

‘Guardians of the Galaxy' director James Gunn jumped to the defense of Pratt, stating that “Chris is unspeakably kind to people; he goes out of his way to help kids. He’s an especially loving father. And there’s a lot of stuff that people have literally just made up about him – about his politics, about who he is, about what he believes of other people, you know?”

Nonetheless, Pratt has remained strong in his faith during all the attacks on his character that he has received.

Pratt has built a life around his faith, having met his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, in 2018 at church. After meeting her, they married and had two kids. Pratt also credits his meeting with Katherine as saving him, as he “felt really broken” following his divorce from ex-wife Anna Faris in 2018, per another Page Six article.

Chris Pratt shows that despite Hollywood's best efforts to corrode the religious beliefs in their actors, the love of Christ can still shine through and guide strong men to better places.
