GOP Lawmaker Goes After Abortion Activists, Calls Them Ugly And Overweight: ‘Be Offended’

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) set his sights on abortion activists during the USA Student Action Summit in Florida this past weekend, describing those who attend abortion protests and rallies as physically “disgusting.”

“Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions?” Gaetz said at the Summit on Saturday. “No one wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”

“These people are odious on the inside and out,” he continued. “They’re like, 5’2”, 350 pounds, like —  ‘Give me my abortions or I’ll get up and march and protest.’ And I’m thinking – march? You look like you got ankles weaker than the legal reasoning behind Roe v Wade.”

Gaetz then explained, “A few of them need to get up and march. They need to get up and march for like an hour a day. Swing those arms, get the blood pumping, maybe mix in a salad.”

Despite this now-viral moment, Gaetz’s speech also covered a potential run by Vice President Mike Pence (R) for the 2024 Republican nomination, an explanation of what he wants the country to look like, the war in Ukraine, and the ongoing corruption surrounding the president’s son Hunter Biden.

In response to the Florida congressman’s earlier comments, a reporter asked “Is it safe to say that, based off your comments, you’re suggesting that these women at these abortion rallies are ugly and overweight?” — to which Gaetz replied, “Yes.”

“What do you say to people who think those comments are offensive?” the reporter added.

“Be offended,” Gaetz shot back.
