After Pressure From Activists Like Matt Walsh, Tennessee Legislature Takes Massive Step to Ban ‘Child Mutilation’

The Tennessee State House passed HR 001, a bill to ban sex-change procedures on minors on Thursday, advancing the bill to the desk of Governor Bill Lee (R-TN).

Upon signage by Lee, who has previously voiced support for the bill, procedures such as mastectomies for girls who believe they are boys would be banned, and it would become illegal to give children cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers.

The bill passed the State Senate on February 13th by a vote of 21-6 and passed the House today by a vote of 77-16.

The bill was cosponsored by Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R-Franklin), and House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland). “These treatments and procedures have a lifetime of negative consequences that are irreversible,” Lamberth stated during a discussion on the bill Thursday. “And let’s be clear: these treatments and surgeries are cosmetic. No procedure or drug can change a human being’s sex, the structure of their chromosomes, or their DNA. It is surgical mutilation for the purpose of altering the appearance of a child and it qualifies as nothing less than abuse.”

The passage of this bill comes after months of intense discussion and debate within the state of Tennessee about the morality and legality of ‘gender-affirming care’ for minors.

Daily Wire personality Matt Walsh, a vocal opponent of ‘gender-affirming’ care for minors, praised the bill’s passage, “We’re fighting. We’re winning. And we aren’t even close to done.”

In September 2o22, Walsh recapped an investigation he and his team had done into the Vanderbilt University transgender clinic. They found that the university, “Drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors.” Walsh would continue to highlight concerning practices, guidelines, and procedures promoted by the department. This would then prompt an investigation into the clinic by Tennessee State Republicans, and the subsequent shutdown of the clinic in October 2022.

Walsh would also host a rally to ‘End Child Mutilation’ in that same month at the Tennessee statehouse, an event that brought national attention to what was happening in Tennessee. Walsh would also be invited to testify in favor of HR 001 in front of the Tennessee House in February 2023, as previously reported by the ‘DC Enquirer.’

The bill is expected to be faced with legal challenges upon its passage. The ACLU of Tennesee is already threatening to sue if the bill is passed, setting up a vicious legal showdown.

The passage of this bill is a massive victory for those opposed to ‘gender-affirming’ care for minors, and no doubt sets a precedent for other states to follow suit.
