Alan Dershowitz Announces Assembly Of ‘Legal Dream Team’ To Defend Israel At ICC After Netanyahu Indictment

Noted attorney Alan Dershowitz revealed Monday he was assembling a “legal dream team” in the wake of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s indictment by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The ICC issued a warrant for the arrest of Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of crimes against humanity stemming from Israel’s response to the Oct. 7 terrorist attack that killed more than 1,200 people. The attack was carried out by the radical Islamic terrorist group Hamas. Dershowitz said his team included multiple former attorneys general and a former FBI director.

“I have an op-ed in today’s Wall Street Journal entitled, ‘I’m putting together a legal dream team to defend Israel,’ and in it, I talk about the International Criminal Court’s outrageous decision to issue arrest warrants against the democratically elected leaders of Israel,” Dershowitz said. “No warrant was ever issued against a democratically elected leader, they usually go after people… in the Sudan and places like that, but the anti-Israel bias of the international legal community, particularly the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, the United Nations are all so obvious that they decided to go after Israel while charging it with genocide and starving to death the people of Gaza, which are totally, totally, totally phony charges.”

“So, within hours of that announcement being made, I started to make phone calls and I put together probably one of the best legal teams ever assembled in the history… in history period,” Dershowitz said. “I got two former attorney generals of [the] United States, I got a former solicitor general. The two attorney generals are Republicans. The solicitor general is a Democrat. I got the former head of the FBI, who was appointed by [a] Democrat and that held on by a Republican, and I got some of the best lawyers in the United States to join on my legal team to defend Israel and its elected prime minister and its former defense minister against these of blood libels.”

In the op-ed, published Sunday evening on the Wall Street Journal’s website, Dershowitz named some of the attorneys on the team. They included former Attorneys General Michael Mukasey and William Barr, former FBI Director Louis Freeh, former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Fox News host Mark Levin, David Boies, Susan Estrich and Floyd Abrams.

“Since the op-ed was published today, I got dozens and dozens more calls and emails from lawyers wanting to join up, people just outraged at the way in which the international court of criminal court is abusing international law and making it a disgrace,” Dershowitz added.

The United States is not a party to the ICC, but the United Kingdom is, and officials there suggested that Netanyahu could be arrested if he enters the UK.
