President Joe Biden stands behind his son, even when Hunter Biden faces possible indictment from the Justice Department due to tax and firearm-related violations.
Joe Biden had a rare sit-down interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle on Friday, the first since announcing his 2024 campaign, during which Biden claimed that “My son has done nothing wrong.” Biden goes even further with “I trust him. I have faith in him, and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.”
Biden's claims of pride come in the midst of federal prosecutors deciding on whether or not Hunter Biden needs to be indicted after a four-year-long investigation.
Hunter Biden’s attorneys met with DOJ officials at the Justice Department last week, likely in connection to the probe. The investigation first began back in 2018 and is led by attorney David Weiss, a prosecutor that was appointed by then-president Donald Trump.
Before the meeting at Main Justice last week, a career IRS employee sought whistleblower protections and levied that the investigation was being mishandled. However, Attorney General Merrick Garland insists that he and his office has put forth no interference in the investigation.
Hunter Biden first got national attention when it was found that the younger Biden had served on the board of a Ukraine-based firm named Burisma. This prompted then-President Donald Trump to urge Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnkyy to open an investigation into Hunter Biden's father, current president Joe Biden, per The Hill.
Hunter Biden then reappeared at the forefront of national news following his private laptop surfacing. The laptop contained several problematic revelations for the Biden family, including videos showing Hunter Biden taking drugs and performing sexual acts.
The entire saga of Hunter Biden being in the limelight can’t be called anything but messy and disastrous. Despite Joe Biden's attempts to minimize the effect that Hunter has had on his presidency, the 53-year-old has undoubtedly damaged the reputation of the president, as well as the country.
Hunter Biden's ties to Ukraine also bring into question the level of aid that the U.S. has been sending to the war-torn country. Whether there are any actual connections between the two is yet to be seen, however.
The entire fiasco with Hunter Biden has added another large blemish to the failing president's record. It’s no wonder that a man who couldn’t properly raise a child would struggle to lead a nation in a time of division.
