According to a new report Thursday, another major Beer maker in the U.S. has thrown its lot in with the LGBTQ+ movement and is sponsoring the 2023 Pride Parade in Denver, Colorado.
Coors Light, one of the flagship brands of the Molson Coors Beverage Company, despite its extensive history of large donations to Republican campaigns per OpenSecrets, has chosen to support the LGBTQ+ cause in defiance of the prevailing views of conservative Americans.
According to TheBlaze, even after competitor Anheuser-Busch's global chief marketing officer Marcel Marcondes called the boycott that brought Bud Light to its proverbial knees a "wake-up call," Coors chose to move forward with the parade sponsorship.
An Axios report cited by the outlet revealed that Anheuser-Busch, Kohl's, and Target, all targeted for boycotts by outraged Americans after troubling support for LGBTQ+ events and even marketing 'transgenderism' and 'Queer content' toward children, lost a combined $28.7 billion in market capitalization in just three months. Bud Light was toppled from its perch as the top-selling beer by Modelo at that same time.
Newsweek reported that in the week concluding June 10, Coors Light revenue increased 25.4 percent, and Miller Light shot up 21.1 percent as consumers shunned Bud Light. Doubtlessly, the brewer noticed. Miller Light has already felt some of the heat due to its recent "woke" ad campaign, according to the outlet.
Coors spokesman Adam Collins told Fox News, "At the end of a long day or the start of a great night, everyone deserves to feel comfortable having a drink and being themselves," adding "That's why beer, wine and spirits companies like ours have supported Pride for decades, why we'll do so in 2023 and why we'll continue to do so for decades to come."
Subsequently, many on Twitter and other social media platforms have begun to call for an expansion of the current boycott to include Coors Molson. One user commented, "Coors Light stands firm as title sponsor of Denver Pride Parade despite Bud Light controversy “Oh Well, Go WOKE, GO BROKE! Sorry gonna miss ya Coors…” Another wrote, "Idiots. They just don’t learn."
Another user tweeted, "Coors Beer picks a LGBTQ side. Does not care what majority of customers think. Coors Light appears resolved in its decision to remain the title sponsor of the Denver Pride Parade. Living up to its name Rocky Mountain Sewage. Who is responsible for this costly decision."
The Denver parade, according to Axios, is expected to have some 15,000 participants, with another 100,000 spectators at the Sunday event.
