Forty-fifth President and leading 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump would beat President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris if the election were held today, according to a recent poll released on Friday.
The poll, released exclusively to The Hill by Harvard CAPS-Harris Polling, asked 1,838 registered voters from February 15-16 who they would vote for if the 2024 presidential election were held today.
Trump beat Biden by five points with 46 percent, compared to Biden’s 41 percent. Trump also beat Harris, beating her by ten points with 49 percent, compared to her 39 percent.
In the Republican primary, Trump beat Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) by 23 points. Trump beat DeSantis with 46 percent to DeSantis’s 23 percent. This is a five point drop in support for DeSantis since last month.
“Perhaps more alarming for DeSantis, however, is his standing in a hypothetical primary field without Trump. Thirty-nine percent of GOP voters said they would back DeSantis for the Republican nomination if Trump was not in the race, but that’s still 10 points lower than where he stood in January,” according to The Hill.
After speaking to a large room packed with supporters on Tuesday at Club 47, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The place was packed with Great American Patriots, and the LOVE and enthusiasm never stopped. In fact, there is more now than ever before. We will WIN IN 2024!!!”
According to an interesting, yet not surprising, recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, the majority of Republicans want Trump to be the Republican nominee, while only 36 percent of Democrats want Biden to be the Democrat nominee.
A whopping 62 percent of Democrat voters are opposed to Biden being the Democrat nominee showcasing that even Biden’s own party is turning against him as scandal after scandal takes over his presidency.
With polls still showing Trump in the lead amongst his potential Republican challengers, any potential candidate will have an uphill battle if they attempt to usurp the favorite to win the 2024 nomination. A favorite that has been polled to beat President Biden in a 2024 matchup.
“We need a fighter who can stand up to the left, stand up to the swamp, stand up to the media, stand up to the deep state. Am I allowed to say stand up to the RINOs, too?” Trump said during his return to the campaign trail.
