AOC Fined For Unpaid Tax Warrant Which Continues to Pile Up, Remains Defiant

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is being hit with further fines on an unpaid tax warrant from five years ago, for refusing to pay down the balance to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The Washington Examiner reported on AOC’s tax troubles earlier this week, writing that New York state filed a tax warrant in July 2017 against “Brook Avenue Press” — a children-focused publishing house she had founded back in 2012 — in an attempt to collect $1,618 in unpaid corporate taxes.

A source from the Bronx County Clerk’s Office confirmed to The Examiner that the tax warrant against AOC’s former business remains open.

Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t made any payments towards that amount causing the bill to balloon up to $2,461.

AOC had previously promised to pay back the unpaid taxes but her team later claimed she would be fighting the warrant, as it was issued in “error,” according to The New York Post.

Another NY Post article from back in 2019 claimed a “spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez, who has called for sweeping tax hikes on the rich, told The Post… that the taxes would be paid right away.”

However, AOC’s aide Corbin Trent said the Congresswoman’s lawyers were looking into the matter and was quoted as telling the newspaper: “I’m her congressional staffer, not her personal accountant.”
