On Tuesday morning, an armed bystander in Memphis, Tennessee, took matters into his own hands after an alleged robber attempted to burglarize a Dollar General in the morning hours. According to the authorities, three armed suspects entered the store just before 10:30 a.m. and proceeded to rob the establishment.
In response, an armed bystander pulled out his gun and opened fire on the trio. Once authorities responded to the scene, one of the alleged thieves had been wounded and was quickly rushed to the hospital. However, he quickly succumbed to his injuries and died, as reported by Breitbart. One of the other suspects was captured by police and is in custody, but the third suspect is still on the run, according to WREG.
Police have yet to say whether the armed bystander was an employee at the Dollar General or if they were a customer. But the bystander was detained by authorities once police responded. He has not been charged, but the investigation is ongoing.
One store owner nearby, Crystal Blair, explained to Fox 13 that her establishment had been repeatedly broken into once she opened her doors three months ago.
"I don't even stay open after dark anymore. I'm really hoping when the new mayor comes in that he has a plan. Businesses are suffering over here," Blair said, adding, "That's horrible to hear that someone actually lost their life. But that's what's going on in Memphis, and we need to really take this seriously."
