On Monday, a new poll from the Des Moines Register and Mediacom showed leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump reinforcing his lead over the entire Republican competition in the first caucus state.
The poll was conducted from October 22 to October 26 and is made up of 404 likely Iowa caucusgoers. The poll's margin of error is 4.9 percent.
According to the poll, Trump enjoys nearly 30 percent support over former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). Both DeSantis and Haley are tied at 16 percent support, showing that DeSantis's all-in-Iowa strategy has failed to gain him the momentum needed to actually challenge Trump for the nomination.
Trump's 43 percent support in Iowa, with less than three months until the caucus on January 15, is seemingly insurmountable at this point in the race. While it is possible that either Haley or DeSantis could close the gap somewhat in the intervening period, Trump's dominance this close to the Iowa caucus will surely win him the first contest in the nation.
"He's still the dominant player in the field, and his standing has, in fact, improved from August," survey runner J. Ann Selzer explained.
According to the Five Thirty Eight polling average, Trump currently has 56.9 percent national support, while Gov. DeSantis has 14.1 percent support, Haley has 8.0 percent support, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (R-OH) has 5.8 percent support, and Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) has 3.1 percent support.
As Trump's lead continues to grow, more and more candidates are dropping out of the race. Just this month, businessman Perry Johnson (R-MI), radio host Larry Elder (R-CA), and former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN) have all dropped out of the race as they failed to make the debate on November 8 in Miami, Florida.
"Now that I am exiting the race, I am proud to announce my endorsement of Donald Trump for President of the United States," Elder explained in a statement earlier this week. "His leadership has been instrumental in advancing conservative, America-first principles and policies that have benefited our great nation."
"We must unite behind Donald Trump to beat Joe Biden and fight back against Biden's unprecedented election interference and the left's destruction of America," he said.
