Former Attorney General William Barr, in spite of thoroughly falling out of favor with conservatives due to both his actions and inactions during the Trump administration, directly contradicted Congressman Jaime Raskin (D-MD) before the press Monday.
The Democrat claimed that Barr and a "handpicked prosecutor" had terminated an investigation into allegations that President Joe Biden had accepted a bribe to the tune of $5 million.
According to The Federalist, whom Barr went on official record with, he said, “On the contrary, it was sent to Delaware for further investigation.”
The former AG spoke with The Federalist after Raskin spoke to the press on Monday.
“What I learned,” Raskin claimed, according to the outlet, “was that Attorney General Barr named Scott Brady, who was the U.S. attorney for Western Pennsylvania, to head up a group of prosecutors who would look into all the allegations related to Ukraine.”
He continued, "After Rudy Giuliani surfaced these allegations," Brady investigated the FD-1023 and "in August determined that there was no grounds to escalate from an initial assessment to a preliminary investigation," he alleged that then "they called an end to the investigation.”
Barr rejected this out of hand.
The ranking member of the House Oversight Committee under Chairman James Comer (R-KY) added for good measure, "If there is a complaint, it is with Attorney General William Barr, the Trump Justice Department, and the team that the Trump administration appointed to look into it."
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted shortly after The Federalist broke the story, "Jamie Raskin LIED! The Department of Justice’s investigation into Biden Family corruption was never closed. The American people deserve to know the truth on the Biden abuse of power and corruption, but his Democrats keep trying to cover it up."
Raskin, however, doubled down on his remarks in an official statement. He wrote, "In August 2020, Attorney General Barr and his hand-picked U.S. Attorney signed off on closing the assessment, having found no evidence to corroborate Mr. Giuliani’s allegations."
Rehashing debunked 'Russia conspiracy' theories he added, "Chairman Comer’s subpoena is about recycling stale and debunked Burisma conspiracy theories long peddled by Rudy Giuliani and a Russian agent, sanctioned by former President Trump’s own Treasury Department, as part of the effort to smear President Biden and help Mr. Trump’s reelection campaign."
