Biden Leaves Thousands Of Americans Behind Again In War-Torn Country

On Saturday, President Joe Biden ordered the evacuation of the American embassy in Khartoum, Sudan after a violent civil war erupted across the war-torn country. The closing of the embassy, however, will leave thousands of Americans behind with the Biden administration admitting that there are no plans to evacuate American citizens.

“Today, on my orders, the United States military conducted an operation to extract U.S. Government personnel from Khartoum in response to the situation in Sudan,” Biden wrote on Twitter. “I am grateful for the commitment of our Embassy staff and the skill of our service members who brought them to safety.”

“I am receiving regular reports from my team on their ongoing work to assist Americans in Sudan, to the extent possible,” he said. “We are also working closely with our allies and partners in this effort.”

“This tragic violence in Sudan has already cost the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians,” the president explained. “It’s unconscionable and it must stop. We’re temporarily suspending operations at the U.S. Embassy in Sudan, but our commitment to the Sudanese people and the future they want is unending.”

While employees of the State Department were swiftly evacuated by the U.S. military, the 16,000 Americans registered in the country are left behind to fend for themselves, as reported by the Associated Press.

“It’s absolutely imperative that U.S. citizens in Sudan make their own arrangements to stay safe in these difficult circumstances,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Friday.

“Americans should have no expectation of a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation at this time. And we expect that that’s going to remain the case,” he added.

Making matters worse for Americans in Sudan, the Khartoum airport is closed along with the border with neighboring Chad, leaving Americans few options to leave the country.

“Due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and closure of the airport, it is not currently safe to undertake a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of private U.S. citizens,” the State Department said in a security alert. “However, we remain dedicated to assisting U.S. citizens remaining in Sudan.”

Once again the Biden administration has abandoned Americans. The evacuation of the embassy in Sudan is a repeat of the Afghanistan withdrawal and once again shows that the administration is failing in its foreign policy.
