Leftist CNN Commentators Blast Biden For Use of Marines in Divisive Speech

Following President Joe Biden’s speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on Thursday, left-wing commentators blasted the president for the use of two Marines that flanked the president in the background of the blood-red speech as he maligned his political opponents as threats to “the very foundations of our republic.”

“Whatever you think of this speech the military is supposed to be apolitical,” tweeted Brianna Keller, host of CNN’s New Day. “Positioning Marines in uniform behind President Biden for a political speech flies in the face of that. It’s wrong when Democrats do it. It’s wrong when Republicans do it.”

While Keller was direct in her criticism of the use of the Marine Corp, CNN Chief National Affairs Correspondent Jeff Zeleny took a lighter touch tweeting, “There’s nothing unusual or wrong with a President delivering a political speech — it’s inherent in the job description — but doing it against a backdrop of two Marines standing at attention and the Marine Band is a break with White House traditions.”

“We need to make sure that our military is as removed from politics as possible and it’s not right if a Democrat uses the military as a political pawn and it’s not right if the Republican Party does it as well,” explained Allison Jaslow, a former executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on CNN’s New Day. “None of our politicians or elected leaders should do that.”

“I agree with the President’s message and I’m glad that he is speaking up in this way,” she continued, adding, “That doesn’t make it right that they picked, you know, window dressing for their event and included Marines in it.”

While the White House has been battered for the use of the military during Biden’s address, the administration has stood by the decision, claiming that the presence of Marines was meant to show “respect.”

“The President gave an important speech last night about our democracy and our values, values that our men and women in uniform fight every day to protect,” an anonymous official told the Washington Post.

“The presence of the Marines at the speech was intended to demonstrate the deep and abiding respect the president has for these service members, to these ideals, and the unique role our independent military plays in defending our democracy, no matter which party is in power,” stated Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a more formal response on Friday. “Again, no matter which party is in power. And it is not abnormal — it is actually normal —for presidents from either side of the aisle to give speeches in front of members of the military, including President Ronald Reagan, President George H.W. Bush. It is not an unusual sight.”

The White House may attempt to cover for Biden’s bad optics but when even commentators at CNN begin to call out the president’s antics, that’s when it becomes clear that Biden has gone too far. Rather than lowering the temperature of the country at a time of tension, Biden has instead decided to raise it and in the process call half of the American people his enemies.

Joe Biden ran for office claiming to be a unifier. His recent actions show that he wishes to achieve the exact opposite: a union poised to turn on itself.
