On Saturday, popular late-night talk show host Bill Maher’s podcast episode with Joe Rogan was released where the two of them ripped apart modern liberal policies pushed by the Democratic Party, contrasting the modern agenda with the leftist agenda of the past.
The show, episode 2029 of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ had the two discuss numerous different policies being pushed nowadays that have a sharp contrast to previous stances of the left. One topic they brought up was the modern push by Democrats to not have police or district attorneys prosecute and jail obvious criminals, something that has led to a notable uptick in theft crimes.
"Liberalism was never shoplifting is progressive,” Maher said. “And we weren't interested in legalizing shoplifting, but after the George Floyd murder and riots, there was a movement to disband a lot of the police.”
“And what happened was, of course, crime went up in certain areas, and a lot of the officers who were fired or let go, were hired as private security by the rich people, and their neighborhoods stayed safe,” he added. “That wasn't exactly a victory for Liberalism." Rogan then discussed how the extremely liberal city of Austin attempted to defund their police force but ultimately “refunded it far more than they defunded it because they course corrected. They realized this was not working, and we have to do something to fix it. Which makes me happy because there's a lot of crime." The late-night talk show then talked about areas that don’t have a defunded police, saying, "Murders have been happening way out of control in Chicago among the African American community for far too long and not really reported in the way they should be. It's amazing how black lives don't seem to matter when they are taken by black lives." They then delved into the difference between the modern liberal attitude compared to that of the past. Rogan said that Maher would be classified as a “90’s liberal,” someone who is “more reasonable” as he isn’t a leftist. Maher completely agreed with the MMA commentator, saying that he is always “trying to make the case that liberal is a different animal than woke.” He added that he believes modern woke ideology is not an extension of classical liberalism, saying it is “most often an undoing of liberalism.” "The woke believe race is first and foremost the thing you should always see everywhere, which I find interesting because that used to be the position of the Ku Klux Klan," the talk show host said. Rogan then attempted to understand where modern woke ideas stem from, but he ultimately reached a different conclusion than the woke crowd. "Our real problem in this country, more than race, is extreme poverty and extreme crime."
