On Saturday, the Netherlands made history by awarding the coveted Miss Netherlands title to a man for the first time. The male will now have the opportunity to go on and compete in the coming Miss Universe contest, being the second man to do so.
The transgender model, Rikkie Valerie Kollé, took to Instagram to share the major win for him and a major defeat for female competitions.
“I DID IT !!!!!” the biological male wrote on his Instagram in Dutch. “Yes I’m trans and I want to share my story but I’m also Rikkie and that’s what matters to me. And wherever you are in the world, I want to be there for you and be the example that I missed as a little me.”
While Kollé was celebrating his victory on Instagram, the commenters weren’t too pleased with the male claiming a spot that is meant for females. Comments immediately began pouring in on how the transgender “stole” the victory from other biological females to who it belonged. Comments like “This is simply evil” and “He’s a man…” alongside many others showed the clear disdain that others had for the competition.
Now, not every single comment of course was criticizing Kollé, simply the far majority of them. One commenter in support of the transgender did make a notable point in their post. “To all the people saying she 'stole' a win from 'real women'. Every single woman in every picture is celebrating. And the judges chose her. She didn’t do anything other then what all the other women did. Feel free to disagree but don’t leave nasty comments on someone’s own page just because you feel bad about it. That’s very much a you problem.”
They did make a fair point. It’s not just Kollé who is responsible for letting such a disgusting event occur. Did the transgender decide to compete? Yes, but did he himself decide that he would win and steal it from other deserving women? No. The blame for the failed event lies on far more than just Kollé and extends to the judges, the contest organizers, and everyone involved in allowing such a blatant display of liberal stupidity.
Having to see a man in the Miss Universe contest will be quite unpleasant but luckily it’s doubtful that he will be able to make it very far in a large-scale competition. The Netherlands is liberal and will happily steal rightful trophies from deserving females but such behavior will not pass when the competition moves to a global scale.
