Black Lives Matter showed its true colors when it was uncovered recently that only a measly 33 percent of the organization's nearly $90 million in public donations were actually given out to charitable organizations. Most of its expenses instead consisted of lining the organization's leaders' pockets and making unnecessary purchases.
According to the New York Post, the public filings for 2020 to 2022 show the organization giving out $30,498,722 in grants to black, trans, and anti-police non-profits in the fiscal years of 2020 and 2021. The number at first glance looks impressive until it is put into context with the nearly $90 million in donations the organization received.
The individual numbers show the truth behind where the money was going. The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF) gave a notable $139,708 salary to board member Paul Cullors, the brother of co-founder Patrisse Cullors, making him one of the only two board members to receive a salary. The other salaried board member, Kailee Scales, got a check for $114,625 before leaving the organization in 2020.
That wasn’t all for the in-house spending, with Paul Cullors’ company, Cullors Security LLC, receiving $840,993 for work done. Another company owned by Paul Cullor, Black Ties Security, LLC, is one of the highest-paid contractors by the organization, receiving $756,330 in compensation for supposed “security services” despite Paul Cullor having no security experience.
The group also chose questionable non-profits to make donations to with thousands going to the Tamir Race Foundation, an organization founded by Samaria Rice, the mother of Tamir Rice. Tamir was killed by police in 2014 for carrying a toy gun that the officer claimed to believe was a real gun and was twelve years old at the time. Rice has been an open critic of BLM, stating that the group failed to properly support mothers of black children who were killed by police. Samaria specifically blames Cullors for the failure.
For some reason, the organization centered around black individuals has also begun to donate to LGBTQ organizations that fit Cullors fancy. The group gave $200,000 to the Trans Justice Housing Project in Atlanta which works to find housing for homeless transgenders.
The group also gave $200,000 to Reuniting of African Descendants, a group that is aimed at “end[ing] the genocide against trans and queer people of African descendants,” though that group has since lost its non-profit status.
The BLM organization has had numerous questionable spending decisions, and even when they give to non-profits, they seem to fail to accomplish their mission of actually supporting black Americans. The entire organization has failed donors and African Americans, making it no wonder why Cullors stepped down in 2021. The group has seen a massive decline in notoriety and will soon become only a husk of what it once was.
