Over the weekend, the city of Chicago, led by Mayor Brandon Johnson (D), had yet another bloody weekend after at least 23 people were shot in the city's streets, including two robbers who were taken down in self-defense by a rideshare rider.
ABC 7/Chicago Sun-Times reported over the weekend that one of those shot over the weekend, a 36-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries after he was shot in the chest.
As reported by Breitbart, another fatal shooting “in the 700 block of South Leamington Avenue." Additionally, a third fatal shooting took place at “5700 block of South Payne Drive" where a man opened fire on a 16-year-old, two 18-year-olds, and a 53-year-old. One of the 18-year-olds died from his wounds.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, 372 people had been killed in Chicago from the beginning of the year up to Sunday.
Some of those shots, however, were injured in self-defense after a 26-year-old rideshare driver opened fire on two robbers at around 1 AM on Saturday.
According to Breitbart, the driver had just completed a ride when a female and male assailant approached him. One of the robbers was armed and was able to take the driver's phone and flee with the vehicle. While driving away, the robber opened fire on the driver.
In response to this, the driver pulled his own concealed weapon and opened fire on the two assailants, striking the man in the leg and grazing the woman on the arm. The driver was uninjured and the male robber was later taken to the hospital.
As Chicago continues to be overrun with crime, the law-abiding citizens that remain are having to take matters into their own hands and defend themselves. Luckily, the rideshare driver came out of the ordeal unscathed, but the over 20 people that were shot over the weekend were not as lucky.
